Sir Mo Farah was said to be quaking in his trainers today, as veteran Walthamstow athlete Suzi Brent set a new 10,000 metre PB of 1:10:54 at the venue formerly known as Waltham Forest Pool and Track.
Said Mo: “This is getting beyond a joke. This time last year I could run three 10ks in the time it took this woman to do one; now I barely have time for a half marathon and a cup of tea and she is done.”
After the race, in which she fought off stiff competition from local squirrels and two blokes having a bit of a jog, Miss Brent said:
“I’m thrilled at my new PB, my first in nearly two years. I now feel I have a real chance of a top-12,000 finish at the Brighton Marathon. I was particularly pleased at the way I paced the run. My last kilometre was the fastest. I might even push the boat out and go for a negative split next time.”
